Faith and the Healing Journey

There are moments in every healing journey when questions feel heavier than answers.

Perhaps you’ve been doing everything you know to do. You’ve made healthier choices, attended appointments, prioritized rest, and prayed for healing. Yet progress feels slower than expected.

In those moments, it’s natural to wonder:

Why is this taking so long?

Am I ever going to feel better?

Where is God in all of this?

Many women living with chronic illness quietly wrestle with these questions. The physical symptoms can be challenging enough, but the emotional and spiritual weight of uncertainty often becomes its own burden.

My Reaction

If you’re like me, the simple fact of having an uncertain future is major stress! I like to be in control and plan my future. In my case, God had a different plan for my life. When I didn’t listen, He allowed my illness to stop me in my tracks! What a wake-up call that was! Everything…..literally EVERYTHING changed and my future was completely unknown to me.

I fought it and tried every which way to figure things out, to no avail. When I finally realized I couldn’t control this challenge or even manage it, I turned quietly to God and cried out! He met me in my heart-wrenching, worried state and simply gave me peace. Peace is the greatest gift in difficult circumstances.

Healing is not Linear

One of the most difficult aspects of healing is that it rarely follows a straight line. There are good days and difficult days. Moments of progress and moments of frustration. Seasons when hope feels strong and seasons when faith feels stretched.

This is an opportunity for your faith to grow! That’s a good thing! As humans, we rarely grow in good times. It’s the difficult times when we learn more about ourselves, dig deep, and learn to trust God more fully.

Faith is not pretending everything is fine. Faith is not denying reality or ignoring medical care. Faith is choosing to trust God while walking honestly through difficult circumstances.

Faith can provide something every healing journey needs: hope.

Hope reminds us that our current circumstances are not the entire story.

Hope helps us continue taking healthy steps even when progress feels slow.

Hope encourages us to keep caring for our bodies while trusting God with the outcomes.

Isaiah 40:31 NLT says:

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

This scripture doesn’t promise a life free from challenges. Instead, it promises strength for the journey.

Perhaps the greatest gift of faith is not that it removes every obstacle. It’s that we don’t have to walk through those obstacles alone. God is with you and me!

Are you discouraged?

If you’re feeling discouraged today, consider taking a few minutes to reflect on God’s faithfulness in previous seasons of your life. What challenges has He carried you through before? What prayers has He answered? What unexpected blessings emerged from difficult circumstances?

Remembering His faithfulness can strengthen hope for the road ahead.

Healing takes time and your story is still being written.

Continue supporting your body through appropriate medical care, healthy lifestyle practices, and daily habits that nourish your wellbeing. And continue nurturing your faith, knowing that God is present in every step of the journey.

You are not alone.

You are not forgotten.

And there is still hope ahead.

In love and health,

Terri
